Charmander - #004

We return once again to the first generation of pokemon. A user by the name of ‘SuperCharmander’ on the Warcraft 3 community site, WCReplays.com, asked if I would build, you guessed it, Charmander next. So here he is. Not a bad build. I left the highlights and shadows as they appear in the sprite. Nothing was better then red for the shadows on the body, I even tried pumpkins. In the sprite, the body and the majority of the fire are both orange. I looked, ehh. So the fire is now built of red wool, and gold blocks. Not a bad sprite but the shadows and highlights still bother me. 5/251.

Original Game Sprite:

Diglett - #050

Remember how I mentioned in my last post that I might build all the second generation starters? Yah that didn’t happen. I’m fairly tired so I decided to build an easy sprite and Diglett is certainly that. But while it was easy to build, I found the colours difficult. Dirt nailed the basic brown, black served is purpose as black, but the darker brown was more difficult. Brown wool was alright, and there was nothing better. The nose colours were kind of difficult and nothing really worked. The magenta wool was a bit too pink but nothing could do better. Damn you Diglett and your difficult palette! I tried to work him into the terrain and that didn’t go great either. You ground type bastard…

Original Game Sprite:

Cyndaquil - #155

Well, this is the second day of my project. And I decided to build the starter Pokemon I took when I played Pokemon Gold for the first time. The ‘fire-mouse’ Pokemon Cyndaquil. This is, so far, the hardest sprite i’ve built mainly because of the solid expanses of black. So after two failed attempts I decided on a different technique. I built the body, column by column from the ground up. Once that was done I added the fire on his back. In the sprite, the body and the yellow fire are the same colour. This looked very odd, and it made more sense for the body to be made of sand. The highlights were left white as I couldn’t find suitable block to replace it. I can’t decided if I want to do the rest of the second generation starters next, or something different. Well, we’ll see.

Bulbasaur - #001

For my second Pokemon, I built the first Pokemon. Weird… Well, moving on. The seed on its back is filled with nutried. The seed grows steadily larger as its body grows. I present to you, Bulbasaur! Built out of black, green, red and white wool using diamond blocks for the highlights. The game sprite uses white pixels for both teeth, claws and highlights. This left the sprite looking sort of odd, so I decided to use diamond blocks. It was the best green highlight I could get. His right leg took me about 3 tries because I kept starting it in the wrong spot. Finally nailed it and the filled in the rest of the sprite. Two hundred and forty nine left.

The original game sprite:

Pikachu - #025

I’ll kick this blog off with the most famous pokemon of all time. That lovable yellow ball of electricity, Pikachu! I built Pikachu using black, yellow, red and white wool, dirt and gold blocks. He didn’t take long as he’s not the largest sprite but it was fun to build. I started with the outline, the build the features, then filled it in. One down, two hundred and fifty to go.

Welcome to Minecraft Pokemon

Hey there. I’m Zawmbeez and this is Tumblr I’ve created to showcase my Pokemon Project. I’ve decided to build all the pokemon sprites from Pokemon GoldPokemon Gold was probably my favourite Pokemon game when I was younger. I’m going to be using the default texture pack and try to get as close to the colour palettes as I can with it. It takes me days to gather all the wool and dyes but I build all the sprites legit and HAHAHAHAHAHA. I’m just kidding. I’m using the Too Many Items mod by Marglyph and the Fly Mod from Zombe’s Mod Pack. I wont be building the sprites in any particular order. They will be built all over the map with observation decks placed to allow for observation of the whole sprite. I’ll be getting reference pictures for the sprites from Pokemon Elite 2000Well that’s it. Look forward to two hundred and fifty one sprites from the best Pokemon game of all time.

If you want high resolution pictures of the sprites, check out my Imgur folder. Whenever I finish a sprite, I will upload the picture there, perhaps even before I post about it here.
